Sweet Surrender 02, 2009, enamel and automotive paint on board, 30 x 36 inches

Lisa Stefanelli
Lisa Stefanelli’s paintings are flowing linear shapes that articulate a state of sustained exhilaration, frozen in space yet constantly moving. At the same time one can also see references to Islamic script, tattoos, car detailing, and grafitti. The artist also pays homage to her years in the nationals as a competitor figure skater…the record of the dance left behind in the ice.

Lisa Stefanelli was born in New Jersey and lives and works in New York City and Pennsylvania. She completed her BA at the Rhode Island School of Design, Provenance, RI (1989). Stefanelli has been exhibiting her artwork since 1994. Her most recent exhibitions include: a solo show at Mark Moore Gallery, Los Angeles, California (2006). A solo show at Pierogi, New York (2004), and “Extreme Abstraction” at the Albright-Knox Museum in Buffalo, New York (2005).
