Splendid Diet, 2007, one shot paint and acrylic on canvas, 21 x 40 inches
Pierre Obando’s work explores the many designs in history of famous advertising logos. He starts with the original logo and tests the possibility of making an abstract painting out of a very recognizable design. The paintings become something very different in the end as the artists’ focus is always on the craft of painting.

Pierre Obando was born in Belize City, Belize, and is living and working in New York. He completed his MFA at Hunter College (New York) in 2001, and his undergraduate degree in Painting from the University of Florida in 1997. Obando has been showing his artwork since 2000. His most recent exhibitions include: “Queens International 2006” at The Queens Museum of Art. Obando received a Grant from ‘The Museum of Chinese in the America’ to photographically document the community of Flushing, Queens. He also received a Barbara White Full Fellowship to the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont.
