Pierre Obando
Perre Obando's paintings, meditated by dot matrix rendering techniques, invoke newsprint and computer imagery that has been enlarged and magnified as if under a microscope or magnifying glass. It’s as if anything that enters into the work must be converted into an accumulation of dots. The work is completed, or created as such by the eye of the viewer as it follows the lines and forms in the paintings. The mechanical and anonymous qualities of his often appropriated sources are internalized by an individual sense of touch and invention.

Pierre Obando was born in Belize City, Belize, and is living and working in New York. He completed his MFA at Hunter College (New York) in 2001, and his undergraduate degree in Painting from the New World School of the Arts (University of Florida), Miami, FL in 1997. Obando has been showing his artwork since 2000. Recent exhibitions include: “Queens International 2004” at The Queens Museum of Art; “Jiffy Pop” Rockland Center for the Arts, Nyack, NY, 2007; “Things Fall Apart”, Rush Arts, New York, NY, 2007. He will have his first New York Solo exhibition at Heskin Contemporary in the fall of 2008.
