Matt Magee
Magee creates meticulous geometric abstractions. These vivid emblematic paintings are composed and painted with a strong focus to surface and color that makes the work both mysterious and seductive. They bring to mind exhumed artifacts, obsessively arranged in uniformed compositions, with a contemporary twist.

Matthew Magee was born in Paris, France in 1961, and grew up in Texas, and has been living and working in New York since the early eighties. Matthew completed his MFA at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York in 1986, and his undergraduate degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas in 1983. Magee has been exhibiting his artwork since 1984. His recent exhibitions include: “Formica Formatted” at the Dallas Center for Contemporary Art, Dallas, Texas (2006), and a group show at Silvermine Arts Center, New Canaan, CT. Magee has been the recipient of the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation Residency in Bethany, CT (2007). He also received a New York State Foundation for the Arts Grant in 2002, and a Pollock-Krasner Grant in 1991.
